The Los Alamos Area Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), under the direction of Maurice Sheppard, officially welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, to join our chapter to sing wonderful four part barbershop harmony.
The previously all-male International Barbershop Harmony Society finally opened the possibility of membership to ALL persons of good character, regardless of gender. Our local acapella chorus, the Lads of Enchantment (LOE), voted unanimously to join the 5% of BHS world-wide chapters accepting women into our chapter and supporting a mixed chorus.
The LOE chorus is proud to have “unofficially” welcomed women to sing in the chorus for 3 years – leading the charge to open close-harmony barbershop acapella singing to everyone. Director, Maurice Sheppard says, “Sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission. We just did the right thing.”
The LOE chorus rehearses at 6:45 PM every Thursday night in Graves Hall in the United Church of Los Alamos complex.
If you live in Santa Fe, you will be warmly welcomed by the Santa Fe Harmonizers to sing with them. The Harmonizers meet on Monday evenings at The Zia United Methodist Church, 3368 Governor Miles Road. Their practices begin at 6:45 PM.
Currently the “Lads of Enchantment” chorus and quartets are learning new music and preparing for “Good Times”, a joint show with the Santa Fe Harmonizers the weekend of October 18 and 19, 2019. The shows will be presented in both Los Alamos and Santa Fe and will feature Special Guest Quartet, “Sound Check”, from Salt Lake City.
Men and women who love to sing and enjoy acapella barbershop close harmony are ALL welcome to join the Los Alamos or Santa Fe choruses. Show up, sing and have fun.
Everyone in Harmony!
